It’s Friday, Time For GPS ROI Eye Candy

As my regular readers know … and if you aren’t a regular reader, what can I do yo make you one? … tell me what aspects of GPS tracking you’d like to know more about .. on Fridays I like to post something visually appealing that’s map or GPS-related. Well today my friend Rob Donat has done my work for me.

Bob’s company, GPSInsight is now an advertiser here on the GPS tracking ROI blog (thanks, Rob) but I’ve been following his company’s work for some time now. There are any number of suppliers out there who can sell you GPS for your fleet. Some of them even know what they are doing ;-) And the nature of GPS tracking combined with the lack of measurement … and thus lack of effective management … that most fleet operations suffer from make sit a cinch that you’ll get a return on investment from almost any supplier with any brand of GPS tracking equipment.

keeping_watch_thru_the_night But as the man once said, it only costs a little more to go first class … and in some cases it doesn’t cost at all, it pays. Some of the things GPS Insight is doing right now I couldn’t even buy at any price just a couple years back. After the “jump’ take a look at the graphic and imagine how useful that would be if you have trucks spread all over the continent. How bad is that crazy hurricane Humberto currently and what trucks are likely to be affected?

I invite you to click over to Rob’s new blog and look at some other interesting work he’s doing. Just in my last post I was talking about ’sleeping” vehicles. unlike dogs it’s usually not very good business practice to let sleeping trucks lie. And if you don’t think you have a problem with your fleet, Great .. but how do you know? You get paid to know, so manage from a position of knowledge, not hope.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the mention & kind words Dave — great point about some even knowing what they’re doing… I’ve always said, ANY GPS solution should provide positive ROI (well, providing it works), but I use the following analogy:

Would you pay $15 for an ounce of silver? No Brainer, right, but yet many people consider the $40 ounce of gold “too expensive” even though it’s massively more valuable to them.

Thankfully we sell the “silver” plan for smaller companies who don’t need all the bells in whistles, and still keep it inexpensive for them. Our “gold” plan typically only adds $8-14 per month but gets much better usability/efficiency to the user.

Then, we have some “titanium” customers where we do everything under the sun to make their organization happy with custom reports, alerts, etc.

But of all the GPS customers out there (our and everyone else’s) there is no question they’re getting a good thing, providing they use it (which is the #1 reason one might not get ROI from GPS — not using it…).

    Thanks again,
    Rob.

Good points, Rob. One thing I was blown away with when I was working this business actively was the number of business owners who didn’t really know how much things costs right now, today … let alone what they could afford to spend.
