No Lack of Ingenuity
GPS Tracking has more uses than I can enumerate, or in this case, that I can even imagine. Now I don’t care if you agree with prostitution or you are mortified by it … I just report the news … and if you read through to the end you will see why the thoughts this group has toward sex worker safety ought to be applied across a broad spectrum of society in need of protection.
Safety shoes for prostitutes

If one thing has been made clear to us via years of television shows, news reports and movies like “Time After Time,” it’s that prostitution is a very dangerous profession.
Out on the streets, ducking the law to begin with, ladies of the night are prone to face violence at a moment’s notice.
And that’s why the Aphrodite Project has developed platform shoes stuffed with technology that it says can protect prostitutes from all kinds of danger.
On the one hand, the shoes have a built-in GPS receiver and emergency button “that relays both the prostitute’s location and a silent alarm signal to public emergency services.” Learn more here NSFW):
So let’s say you’re a George Bush/Rush Limbaugh conservative and feel that prostitutes only get what they ask for. Why is this of any general concern?
Well what about the most obvious candidate? The police woman running a sting operation where prostitution is illegal? Almost always she’s protected by her arrest team, but what about the nightmare of her being yanked into a car of a perpetrator who then speeds away?
What about the college girl or working single woman who visits a bar, expecting the same freedom a single man would, but instead gets kidnapped by a criminal … you’ve seen it on TV.
Or the welfare worker who goes to visit a shut-in client in a bad neighborhood and is accosted by thugs?
Don’t get me wrong. I have my doubts how accurate these shoes can be … but that’s being worked on and it’s certainly something that should be looked at for all segments of society, regardless of your won views on “ladies of the evening”.
