GPS The Heavens, Not Just The Earth

With new VITO AstroNavigator II you can literally touch the sky. Just slide with a finger to rotate the screen and see a star, a planet, or a constellation. Tap one of them to read a wealth of information about it in a pop-up window.
VITO AstroNavigator II is the GPS application that displays sky map above you according to your current location, time and direction of movement. VITO AstroNavigator II supports the latest GPS receivers with the digital compass and rotates the screen according to your heading to display the right picture of the sky above you…
Faintly purple prose above from the VITO web site. Understandable over-enthusiasm aside though, this is a very nice application for Windows Mobile hand-held devices.
People buy these things and carry them around expecting them to do useful things … and they do… in many cases the same useful boring things my Commodore 64 was doing 20 years ago. But there are many applications yet to be dreamed of … and far too few developers willing to take a dream and do the scut work to carry it forward into a useful product. I deem this a useful product and Recommend it.
If you’re a developer or enthusiast in some particular application, look around at what is available and what ought to be and then pick up the ball and run with it. Far too many folks are focused on the code instead of the making of a product. Noting useful ever got developed until someone moved forward with their dream.
