How much is asset abuse really costing my company?
How many times have you read advice that says “avoid jackrabbit starts, harsh braking and “cowboy” maneuvers”? Good advice to be sure, but unless you ride along on every trip you won’t know how your vehicles are being driven. With a high-resolution GPS tracking system, you’ll have intimate knowledge of how your assets are being treated. You’ll even have ‘one click’ reports that will draw a detailed graph of driver’s performance so that you can correct the ones who aren’t helping the business and reward those drivers who really do take care of your assets.
Of course the biggest reason you want to know about this kind of vehicle abuse is, it directly affects your bottom line. You should easily be able to recover the cost of a high precision no monthly cost GPS tracking system in a year. But there are other advantages to monitoring abuse aside from the wear and tear on your equipment.
Ever wonder how a customer or potential customer feels about your company when they experience one of your drivers playing “cowboy” first hand? Believe me it isn’t a positive factor.
We talked separately about speeding but other unsafe operating practices greatly increase you business’s risks as well. Many bad driving habits can easily be eliminated with proper supervision and training, but you have to know they are happening first.
You could put a supervisor out on the road watching for your drivers and making personal reports to you, but how much is that going to cost you?
Bottom line, in today’s market, you can easily put a full-time supervisor in every car or truck at no monthly cost. It’s like adding as many supervisors as you have vehicles without increasing your payroll a cent.
Remember, you can’t manage what you can’t measure.
